THE EPITOME OF EVIL; HUMAN TRAFFICKING

“You may choose to look the other way but you can never say that you did not know”

Sex Trafficking can sound like a crime which is not a part of this world, because how can humanity betrays someone like that. A lot of us ordinary people might have heard a case or two but we never came across to a situation in reality and thus we live in denial that such a barbaric activity is happening among us and is done by some monsters who still have the nerve to call themselves humans.

When I first came across the idea of writing about this topic, I was clueless, not academically because we all have at some point of time heard about it, but rather emotionally. I admit that no amount of research or factual knowledge can help me feel the pain of the victims. However, I still read a bunch of blogs and articles and I was speechless of the figures that I came across to. Those never-ending figures made me shiver, the geographical locations mentioned made me realize that just how close we are to this criminal world and yet we keep our eyes shut to it.

I understand the need of exact terminology that defines this crime, the types, the numerical figures of a particular region because if we talk about globally, I am not sure humanity can handle those figures. I wish we could say that it is just another crime which still doesn’t make it better, but I feel sorry for those who see it that way, because this is not considered as a crime in the eyes of most people like murder, rape, theft etc. which human trafficking does include and still has room for many other expected crimes. It is considered as taboo business activity, in which the victims are robbed of their personality, their dreams for a normal life, they could be murdered if they hope for help and the possibility of rape is just unrealistic.

If we talk about its terminology, here is a piece of what one can find on Internet:

What would it be like to wake up each day and have no say in where you’re going, or what you do? For the 40.3 million people trapped in modern-day slavery, this is their reality. Held against their will, voice silenced, stifled by abuse, poverty, and cultural norms.

Human trafficking is defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of persons by improper means (abduction, deception, abuse of power or preying on vulnerability) and control for an improper purpose including forced labor or sexual exploitation.”

Now, I believe one has a much clearer point of view of this crime. Yet if one wishes for more testimonials, just a click on Internet will provide you with a life-time worth of figures.

But what about the survivors? I sincerely hope that my readers have this question because that is another ugly side of this crime. Unlike other crimes, survivors of this crime are not looked upon as one. They are still treated as criminals of the societal culture, and the actual criminals have such a huge network that it is just impossible to catch them and end this evil for once and for all. The victims who already survived through hell are still questionable objects of respect from society. They are considered as sex-filth and are treated worse than actual criminals until they decide to give-up. For those who have fought through this living nightmare have accounted for it and understand how difficult it is to come out alive from this epitome of evil. And they are the ones who are now helping the other victims in their cry for help.

So, this is my request to my well-educated and open-minded readers to not look away from those in need of your help. Do not invalidate their struggles and pressurize stings of culture and society on their wound. Extend your arms, for every help counts and can save hundreds of lives, because,

“This could be the Generation that Says; Enough!”
